Essay Coach is designed to provide writing instruction and support to students in Grades 7 through 12, as well as those in university or college. The comprehensive curriculum guides students through the essay-writing process from start to finish, strengthening skills and promoting confidence.

Developed by experienced, Ontario Certified Teachers, Essay Coach students will learn to:

Plan and organize their ideas
Critically analyze texts
Conduct effective research
Structure and compose an effective essay
Correctly structure bibliographic entries and citations
Revise and proofread their work


Essay Coach Programs

Opinion Essay

A dynamic group class program available to Toronto students!

This program is suited for students wanting to learn, or improve, their knowledge of essay structure and the writing process. Students write an opinion essay with classmates during lessons, and work to write an opinion essay on their own while developing and strengthening writing and planning skills for all future essays.

Ages: Entering Grade 6 to Grade 9

This 8-day class includes:

Lessons on 4 stages of the essay writing process: plan, organize, write, and edit
Skill building through games, activities, and group essay-writing
Knowledge, skills, and resources to help with future essays
Crafting of an individual opinion essay start to finish with support and feedback

 

Research Essay

A dynamic group class program available to Toronto students!

This program is tailored to high school students wanting to take their essay writing further and learn specific skills required for research papers. Students will learn all five stages of the essay writing process (plan, research, organize, write, and perfect), including lessons on locating and evaluating sources, taking research notes, avoiding plagiarism, paraphrasing, and creating a bibliography. Students will gain skills through activities, writing a collaborative research essay with classmates, and crafting an independent research paper. The numerous skills and strategies learned throughout the program will enable students to approach all future essay writing with confidence.

Ages: Entering Grade 9 to Grade 12

Lessons on 5 stages of the essay writing process: plan, research, organize, write, and edit
Skill building through games, activities, and group essay-writing
Lessons on research methods, plagiarism, citations, paraphrasing and more
Knowledge, skills, and resources to help with future essays
Crafting of an individual research essay start to finish with support and feedback

Disclaimer: RRLS group classes require a minimum number of students to run effectively. Families will be notified two weeks before the class start date if there is a risk of cancellation. In the event of a class cancellation, registrants will be given notice a week in advance of the camp start date. Participants will then have the option of transferring to another class or service, or receiving a full refund.
