At Ruth Rumack’s Learning Space!

A Unique Numerical Approach To Mastering The
Written Word.
Imagine your child having the ability to handle
and execute any written assignment without angst
or worry. Power Writing gives students the skills
to unlock their writing potential so that they
can easily create essays, short stories, book
reports or any other type of writing assignment.
Ruth Rumack’s Learning Space is proud to
present Power Writing, a dynamic tool designed
to help students in grades 4-6 dramatically improve
their writing skills. Taught in a group class
of no more than twelve students, Power Writing
provides a clear structure for students to effectively
and efficiently express their ideas.
Many students know what they want to say, but
are overwhelmed by the writing process. Power
Writing takes the guess work out of writing by
providing a unique numerical structure and supporting
signal words.. Through Power Writing’s step
by step approach, students learn how to successfully
share their ideas on paper.
RRLS has been successfully teaching Power Writing
to our private students for several years, and
we’ve seen dramatic results. Students who
employ Power Writing strategies learn to clearly
visualize and organize their thoughts, find the
right words, and structure their sentences in
a manner that allows the student to fully express
themselves. The results include greater personal
satisfaction and quality of work, as well as ultimately
higher grades.
The Power Writing group class offers a dynamic
atmosphere for students to learn Power Writing
strategies. A trained teacher will present lessons
that are concise, well formatted and geared to
achieve success. Lesson plans have been constructed
to encourage active participation through a combination
of group activities, co-operative games, and individual
work. Our Power Writing class teaches that learning
how to write is fun and enjoyable.
RRLS recommends Power Writing to all students,
no matter their grades or current ability. The
vital skills that will be learned will last a
lifetime and are a must for everyone.

FAQ:
What Is Power Writing?
Power Writing uses a unique
numerical approach and supporting signal words
to teach students how to master the writing process.
The program helps students organize their own
thoughts then provides structure for their writing.
When properly employed, Power Writing dramatically
increases a student’s ability to express
themselves clearly in written form.
Who Should Attend The Class?
Power Writing at Ruth Rumack’s Learning
Space is geared for students in grades 4-6. The
class has been constructed to meet the needs of
every child, at any writing level. Power Writing
is for everyone, regardless of their current grades.
How Is Power Writing Taught
At Ruth Rumack’s Learning Space?
Power Writing classes at RRLS are designed to
be kinaesthetic and multi-sensory, appealing to
all types of learners. Each session begins with
a series of dynamic, interactive games and activities
that act as a hook into our written work. Students
are given clear examples and the time to practice
the Power Writing techniques within the class.
How Long Has Power Writing
Been Around?
Power Writing has been used in various forms
since the 1980’s. At times various Power Writing exercises have seeped into the school
system. However, schools usually don’t teach
Power Writing in its full form as lesson plans
are scattered and generally hard to find.
Why Is Ruth Rumack’s Learning Space
A Great Place To Learn About Power Writing?
We have been teaching Power Writing to our one
on one tutoring students for several years and
have perfected a dynamic, interactive and accessible
way to teach the program. Our private students
have benefited greatly from Power Writing.
What Are The Teacher Qualifications?
All teachers at Ruth Rumack’s Learning
Space are either certified teachers or experts
in their fields, who hold at least one university
degree in their specialty. Each tutor has extensive
class room and/or tutoring experience. Our Power Writing teachers are thoroughly trained in the
program and are very knowledgeable about the lesson
plans.
Will My Child Receive A Power Writing
Workbook?
Yes. The Power Writing course includes all materials
that students will be able to keep. The Power Writing workbook should be used as a reference
when completing homework assignments for both
school and the Power Writing course. We encourage
parents to read the workbook so they can familiarize
themselves with Power Writing techniques.
Will There Be Homework?
Students will be sent home with short assignments
to complete between classes in order to reinforce
the Power Writing lessons. Homework will me reviewed
and feedback provided. Power Writing can only
be fully effective if the homework is completed.
Will My Child’s Grades Improve By Using
Power Writing?
Generally, grades will improve when Power Writing
strategies are used, due to the clear and concise
structure Power Writing encourages. However, parents
must be aware of where their child is on the learning
curve. Although results can happen quickly, learning
to write effectively is a process. The effects
are mostly gradual and will usually appear over
the course of a year. Students must be thorough
in how they use Power Writing to reap the maximum
results.
How many Power Writing Levels
are there?
Power Writing is taught in 3
Levels. Each level builds a new set of skills
and techniques. Level 1 will be taught during
the 2009 spring semester. Level 2 & 3 will
be taught in subsequent semesters. For students
to reap the maximum benefit Power Writing
has to offer, they should attend all three levels.
