Pre-reading & Reading Programs

The Alpha-Mania programs successfully teach children to identify letters, read short words and sentences, and tackle sentence composition. The RRLS pre-reading and reading programs Alpha-Mania, Alpha-Mania Senior and Alpha-Mania Alumni are based on thorough research and emphasize phonological awareness within a fun and creative environment. Dynamic themes and kinesthetic activities provide engaging learning experiences. The programs are based on five essential predictors of reading success: sound-symbol correspondence, rhyming and alliteration, blending, segmenting and recognizing sounds within words. All Alpha-Mania programs are designed to prepare, support and enhance a child’s classroom experiences, in order to instill confidence in emerging readers.

Alpha-Mania (ages 3 to 5) is a pre-reading program in which instructors invite children to interact with the sounds, names and shapes of letters through activities, stories, songs and crafts. Our dynamic themes create an exciting learning adventure as children pretend they are in space, on a pirate ship or exploring the rainforest, just to name a few.

Alpha-Mania Senior (ages 4.5 to 5.5) is an early reading program in which instructors lead children to confidently read small words and short sentences on their own, introducing children to early reading strategies, high frequency words, sentence composition and correct letter formation, and inspire confidence and reading success.

Alpha-Mania Alumni (reading ages 5.5 to 7) is a reading program that allows children to expand their reading, writing and spelling skills. This program is designed to complement and provide enrichment for the grade one language arts curriculum. Alpha-Mania Alumni students learn complex sound combinations and spelling rules including the silent-e rule, blends, and long vowel patterns.  Phonological awareness skills are further developed as well as high frequency vocabulary and story writing skills.

All Alpha-Mania Programs are designed and developed by certified teachers with extensive knowledge of phonological awareness research and literacy development.
