An Interactive Toronto Summer Art Camp - Mini Masters & Camp Mini Masters

Mini-Masters

Founded on thorough research, Mini Masters is an interactive visual art program in which children ages 3 to 5 are introduced to the minds and techniques of great artists, including Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo, Henri Matisse, and Georgia O’Keefe, to name a few. Far greater than the average arts and crafts program, children are introduced to the idea that behind every painting, drawing and sculpture, stands a great artist.

The goal of the program is to foster and build independence, imagination, and creative confidence through manipulation and experimentation with a variety of materials and media. Children explore the different movements in art history and the theoretical elements of design: line, shape, colour, texture, value, space and form.

The program is founded on the philosophy that all children develop and grow when they are given artistic opportunities. It is perfect for children seeking a creative outlet and new ways to express themselves, as students are given the opportunity to create a masterpiece in the style of the artist of the day. Dynamic art activities include sculpting, still life drawing, collage, mural work, action painting, stain painting, and much more. Children benefit from the warm Mini Masters environment in which the individual abilities of each child are celebrated, while fostering imagination, collaboration and open-mindedness.

Mini Masters attend lunchtime lessons offered on weekdays and weekends once a week during the school year. Additionally, children can join weeklong sessions of Camp Mini Masters during the Winter, March & Summer Breaks. Mini Masters can also be taught in your home for private groups.

FAQs

What is Mini Masters?
Mini Masters is an interactive art program that exposes children to master artists and expands artistic knowledge and creativity. Children create great works of their own that are inspired by the artist studied and the seven elements of design.

Which artists will Mini Masters explore?
The Mini Masters collection of lessons contains many different artists, and draws upon different styles and movements, cultures and populations, and various forms of artistic production. Some artists studied include: Keith Haring, Henry Rousseau, Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O'Keefe, Henri Matisse, Sheila Hicks, Kenojuak Ashevak, and Viola Frey.

What does a Mini Masters lesson involve?
All Mini Masters lessons are comprised of the following key interactive components:

  • Visual Attendance - artistic sign-in at the start of every class
  • Look, Listen, and Learn Gallery - introduction to the artist’s life and works
  • Art Activity - creation of art in the style of the artist of the day
  • Art Skills - fostering an understanding of the elements of design: line, shape, colour, texture, value, space and form

In addition to these unique elements, Mini Masters classes include movement activities and stories that expand creative possibilities.

Will every child be able to create their own work?
Yes. Different art projects are developed in every lesson. The class is designed to be a hands-on, interactive experience for everyone. Students take pride in the work that they create, knowing that it has been composed independently.

Where are the classes held?
At Ruth Rumack’s Learning Space, 720 Spadina Avenue, Suite 300, Toronto. Classes can also be taught to private groups in your own home.
