What is Homework, Exam & Organizational Support?

Our aim is to consolidate knowledge and lay a sound foundation for academic achievement.

How long have you been providing this service?
RRLS began this support service in 1996. Over this time, we have gained considerable knowledge regarding the Ontario curriculum, and have established strong working relationships with many schools, both public and private, as well as other educational professionals. This network allows for a deeper understanding of the work demands facing students today.
What are some unique features of this service?

Features of the full-year study schedule:
What are the qualifications of your teachers? How are they supervised?
All lessons are taught by an experienced teacher with B.Ed and/or M.Ed certification, with extensive knowledge of the Ontario curriculum. On occasion, RRLS hires Learning Specialists for math and science that have graduate degrees in their area of specialty, provided that they have previous teaching experience as well as an in depth understanding of the Ontario curriculum. Teachers are selected not only for their skill level, but the ability to relay information in a warm and encouraging manner. Teachers are also aided by extensive support from the Director of Education and a library of reference materials.
Are the lessons truly One to One?
Sessions are exclusively One to One, which means one teacher teaching one student in a private space. Our learning spaces are deliberately designed to eliminate noise and distraction.
Do you offer support for specific subject areas?
Yes, every school subject is taught differently and, consequently, requires different study strategies. Since preparing for a social studies report is dramatically different than studying for a multiplication quiz, our support services are tailored to the specific needs of each student. Our Learning Specialists equip students with the tools necessary to confidently tackle assignments in all subject areas.
What subject areas are offered?
Math
Science
English Studies

Do you have experience supporting students with Learning Differences?
Yes, our teachers are highly trained to support those diagnosed with Learning Differences as well as ADD/ADHD, and anxiety and executive functioning issues.
What approach do you use when teaching children with Learning Differences?
RRLS teachers use a variety of teaching methods when working with students with Learning Differences. Concepts are taught explicitly, and our teachers are experts in breaking down classroom concepts into manageable and accessible pieces. We take the learning style of each student into consideration and cater our lessons accordingly.
How do RRLS One to One sessions differ from ‘individualized’ sessions offered by other companies?
All RRLS Homework, Exam & Organizational Support students attend One to One sessions, which consists of one student with one teacher in a private learning space. ‘Individualized,’ for other companies, often means that a student is placed in a program within a set curriculum, but attends lessons within a group class. Many times the students in these group classes have different issues, are in different grades, and are working on different subjects. We believe that one student working with one teacher in a private space is the most effective method for learning, as well as the best use of a student’s time and a parent’s financial resources. The student benefits from the teacher’s entire focus, and is not distracted by other students.
What results should I expect from RRLS programs?
RRLS achieves great results, and the majority of students progress significantly over the course of their lessons. However, each individual learns in their own time. While one student may need only a few months of support to achieve their goals, another student may need several years. RRLS offers a great opportunity for students to dramatically increase their skills, and reach milestones they never thought possible.
What should we do as a family to best support the work at RRLS?
Families are vital to helping their children grow academically. Providing a supportive environment, with clear expectations for your child is the key to success. This includes arriving on time for lessons, keeping the teaching appointment free of other activities to minimize cancellations, ensuring that your child comes to regular lessons even during school holidays, and providing a dedicated space at home where the your child can work without distraction.
Can RRLS help me advocate for my child?
Yes, RRLS is very familiar with the Ontario education system, and we have strong working relationships with many schools, both public and private, as well as other educational professionals. RRLS Learning Specialists are available to attend school meetings, including parent-teacher interviews, as well as IEP and IPRC meetings. We often work with families, providing guidance and insight into how to effectively communicate with school personnel and resolve academic issues. Additionally, we empower our students to exercise self-advocacy skills, allowing them to take greater responsibility for their academic success.
How often should my child come for Homework, Exam & Organizational Support?
We recommend attending at least two lessons per week. This frequency establishes a positive learning rhythm, allowing the Learning Specialist to keep abreast of the student’s work habits and school demands. This regularity allows for the development of positive study habits that include completing homework accurately and in a timely manner, actively using an agenda to prioritize tasks, and reviewing course material to consolidate knowledge.
